Polish National Union of Canada Celebrates Renovations to Burlington Community Centre Thanks to $141,000 OTF Grant
Burlington, ON – On Saturday, local MPP Natalie Pierre met with the management team at the Polish National Union of Canada (PNUC) Branch 17 in Burlington to hear more about the $141,000 Capital Grant the Branch received from the Government of Ontario’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to fund much-needed renovations. The renovations began in 2023 and are expected to be completed by the end of January 2024.
“The Polish National Union of Canada is an integral part of the Polish community here in Burlington. The funding from the OTF Capital grant stream will help with renovations to ageing infrastructure and critical upgrades to the kitchen and main hall,” said Natalie Pierre, MPP for Burlington. “I am thrilled that the Polish National Union of Canada will be able to better the community and continue to make a positive difference.”
This Capital grant, first awarded in November 2022, allowed PNUC Branch 17 to undertake much-needed renovations for their ageing building, including crucial repairs to its foundation. In addition, the project allowed for the renovation of the kitchen and main hall and funded the purchase of new kitchen equipment. Thanks to these improvements, the Community Centre will be able to continue serving community organizations for meetings, celebrations, fundraisers and other events for years to come.
“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated,” said Bozena Jokel, President of the Polish National Union of Canada. “This grant has allowed for much-needed renovations to be made. The life of our building will be extended for the use of future generations. This project will benefit not only the Polish community but also Canadian and multicultural communities.”
The Polish National Union of Canada is one of the country’s main organizations promoting and sharing Polish culture and heritage and coordinating projects and advocacy among Canadians with Polish heritage. PNUC stands for diversity and intercultural cooperation. With their local branches, they contribute to their communities and help to build an even better Canada.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) mission is to build healthy and vibrant communities across Ontario. As an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations, last year, OTF invested over $110M into 1,022 community projects and partnerships.
